Fourth Grade UPDATES

We wanted to send a brief list of announcements and updates from fourth grade:

#1- OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIP INFO- Don't forget to get your permission forms turned in ASAP for the 4th grade overnight field trip. We are sending home extra packets tomorrow, along with "Roommate Wanted" sheets for your
child to fill out. They may list three students they would be interested and feel comfortable rooming with while on the trip. This is not a guaranteed list, rather an opportunity for them to share with us their suggestions. Mrs. Moran and the fourth-grade teachers will have ultimate say in room assignments, but did want to give our students a voice in the process.
*PERMISSION and ROOMMATE FORMS ARE DUE ASAP
*$65 is due by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23rd

#2- SCHOOL SUPPLIES- We have A LOT of students wasting, breaking, losing, etc. school supplies. Erasers are being ripped apart, poked with pencils, etc. Pencils are being snapped into pieces and then thrown away. We also have students using their supplies (tools) as toys. Please talk with your child about how they are treating their supplies and their time in class. Using it wisely would be caring for supplies while working on the assigned task at hand (reading, working on assignments, writing, solving math problems, etc.). We try to balance whole group instruction with work in small groups, one-on-one, etc., but need to trust that students working at their seats, or in another area of the room, are able to stay on task and focused. It is very distracting to those needing the extra support.

#3- DATA BINDERS- We are starting to add information and data from in-class work to your child's data binder. Please start watching for those to come home once or twice a week with new information. Every Monday (with the exception of this week) there will be Reading Counts and Word Study data being added. Math will depend on the Unit length and timing of tests, so it will vary. Your child is the one to add the data as we talk them through it, so they know when to bring home new information to you. We have wrapped up all of our NWEA testing and will hopefully be able to send home reports within the next few weeks. Please sign the front parent signature page in the binder, add any comments if needed, and return the data binder to your child to bring back to school. This is an excellent conversation tool to use with your child. What are they reading? How are they working to grow as a reader? What is their Lexile? How are they doing with math facts and unit tests? How can we help at home? WATCH FOR THESE WEEKLY, beginning next week... we are trying to help build a habit of taking it home weekly and communicating with you, but your child may need reminders and support to get this done. Thanks so much and let us know if you have ANY questions or concerns.

#4- AGENDAS- We are starting to see negative behaviors that require notes in agendas. Please check these nightly (should be your child's responsibility to show you) for homework and/or behavior notes. We will also record positives in there. Thanks for your help with this, also! We appreciate you!
