Language Arts- Mrs. Taylor's Unit 2 Wrap Up and Unit 3 Launch

This week we are wrapping up Unit 2 of our Benchmark Reading Series with a week of fluency practice.  We are rehearsing our scripts
for our Student-Led Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday evening, reading GOOD FIT books independently and with others, and learning about short and longer pauses when reading for fluency.

When we return from Fall Break, we will be launching Unit 3 of our Benchmark Reading Series.
UNIT 3 FOCUS:
*Skill- Making Inferences
*Metacognitive Strategy- VISUALIZING
*Genre- Historical Fiction
*Fluency- "Full Stop" Pauses

Please make sure your kiddos are reading good fit books NIGHTLY for 15-20 minutes (or more) and sharing their weekly data with you.  We are using Reading Counts as a way to track their progress with good fit books and Lexile goals, and those reports are added weekly, in their DATA BINDERS, for your child to share at home.  Also, watch for reading comprehension assessments (normally 4-8 questions in length) every two weeks or so.  Not all students are sharing these with parents and they are our tool for assessing skills and strategies during our Units.  If you see a C+R or Correct and Return written on it, they can correct their mistakes and return for an averaged grade.  If it isn't written, but you'd like them to correct it for understanding, they are more than welcome to turn it in to me for the average grade.  See everyone on Thursday for conferences.  Have a wonderful week!
